Lauren went on a Church to Church trip last November with The Highlands Church, who partners with a church in Carrefour, Haiti. She was awakened to a deeper and more intimate love. This love sprang up all because she was given the opportunity to go to Haiti and build a relationship with God’s people there and was open to it.
Here is an excerpt from Lauren’s blog: Called out Upon the Water.
“I wanted nothing more for the week than to love these people like Jesus. My prayer to understand this unimaginable love was answered as I asked Jesus to “lead me to the cross.” I was given the precious gift of seeing from his perspective as he looked out upon his beloved from the cross.
I thought that I had no expectations for the trip. But God knows the depth of my heart and saw otherwise. So, during an unannounced visit to our partner church that first evening, he chose to set the record straight with my team. We quietly entered the church and sat on the humble benches. Scattered throughout were a few children, young boys on instruments, women and men standing, praising God without inhibition. All the while, a gentleman with a microphone sang his heart out in a language we didn’t understand. It was an apparent tender moment that he was sharing with his Lord, as though it were just the two of them present.
Unbeknownst to us, God had scheduled an appointment with us all. Almost immediately, my team was brought to tears as the Holy Spirit connected us all, our spirits singing the same song. No words were needed and the language didn’t matter. God blessed us with his presence and the revelation that this week was his and any expectations that we had weren’t needed. At that moment, we were no longer two completely different countries and cultures, but brothers and sisters in the Kingdom worshipping our God.
For years I walked through a spiritual desert, unaware. Only when I tasted the sweetness of The Lord did I realize how parched my soul had become. I was living, what I thought, was a normal Christian life. I had no clue that my soul was suffering from a thirst that could only be quenched by the Living Waters poured out through intimacy with The Lord.”
God is working using Church to Church to bring connections and deep relationships to His body. This is only one example and of many stories out there, stories that we which to share on this blog.
